OpenAI chairman to buy stake in 49ers; deal values club at more than $9B
OpenAI Chair and Sierra co-founder & CEO Bret Taylor is acquiring 1% of the 49ers. Taylor’s purchase must be approved by the owners in a meeting scheduled for today. 49ers owner & CEO Jed York will retain full control of the team. He and his family still own nearly 90% of the club.

Economist says NASCAR owes $364.7M to teams in antitrust case
An economist in Michael Jordan’s federal antitrust trial against NASCAR said the racing series owes a combined $364.7 million in damages to the two teams suing it over a revenue-sharing dispute. Edward Snyder has testified in more than 30 cases. Using a complex formula applied to profits, a reduction in market revenue, and lost revenue to 23XI Racing and Front Row Motorsports from 2021-24, Snyder came up with his amount of damages owed.

Stuart Scott 30 for 30 showcases ESPN legend who changed the game
Stuart Scott is the subject of ESPN’s latest 30 for 30 film: “Boo-Yah: A Portrait of Stuart Scott.” The film premieres tonight at 9pm ET on ESPN, the ESPN app and Disney+. Filmmaker Andre Gaines interviewed 50 people in the span of two years and said he had enough footage for a four-or-five-part series.

Inter Miami stadium district to feature golf venue and adventure park
Inter Miami CF’s new stadium district at Miami Freedom Park will have PopStroke and Toroverde. PopStroke is Tiger Woods’ golf entertainment venue. This will be Toroverde’s first mainland US location.

Rays officials say they are making progress on a new stadium for 2029
Rays CEO Ken Babby said the team is progressing in evaluating a handful of sites for a new ballpark. He said the new stadium will be ready for the 2029 season. Babby did not state any specific sites. He compared his goal of having a stadium done by 2029 to the A’s breaking ground on their Las Vegas stadium in June, and they are on track for a 2028 opening.

Gianni Infantino accused of breaching FIFA’s ethics codes in relation to President Trump comments
An official complaint has been submitted to FIFA’s Ethic Committee. The complaint alleges “repeated breaches” of FIFA’s duty of political neutrality by president Gianni Infantino. An investigation was requested into the prices that saw United States President Donald Trump receive the inaugural FIFA Peace Prize.

College Football TV Ratings: Most-watched teams of the 2025 regular season
Week 14 of the college football season had three of the most-watched games of the year. College football TV ratings as a whole increased 2% heading into conference championship weekend. In the regular season, Alabama was the No. 1 watched team with 8.49 million viewers. Texas was second up with 7.55 million viewers.

University of Utah approves private equity plan for athletics. Here’s what it means for the Utes.
The U.’s board of trustees cleared the way for a new for-profit company backed by a private equity firm. The deal involves the New York private equity firm Otro Capital. Utah Brands & Entertainment will be created to oversee the athletics department’s revenue sources. Otro Capital would be the minority owner of Utah Brands and handle operations such as ticket sales, media, stadium events, concessions, and trademark and licensing matters.
