Vegas awarded 2029 Super Bowl
The NFL has officially awarded the 2029 Super Bowl to Las Vegas, marking the city’s second time hosting the game in five years after its successful debut with Super Bowl LVIII (2024) at Allegiant Stadium. League officials cited the strong execution, scale, hospitality, and overall success of the 2024 event as key reasons the city was selected again. The decision signals that Las Vegas is likely to become a regular destination in the Super Bowl host rotation moving forward.

NBA approves Portland Trail Blazers’ sale to Tom Dundon at $4.25 billion valuation: Source
The NBA’s Board of Governors approved the sale of the Portland Trail Blazers to a group led by Tom Dundon in a roughly $4.25 billion two-phase transaction that will transfer 80.1% ownership immediately and the remaining 19.9% by Sept. 1, 2028, ending the franchise’s nearly four-decade ownership under Paul Allen and later Jody Allen. Dundon’s ownership group includes several investors and reflects his reputation for analytics-driven decision-making and aggressive spending on roster talent, as seen with the Carolina Hurricanes. The sale comes as the team pursues roughly $600 million in renovations to the city-owned Moda Center, with major public funding commitments already pledged and the proceeds from the franchise sale set to be donated to charity per the Allen estate’s plan.

Six-time Masters champion Jack Nicklaus will appear as a rotating guest analyst during Amazon Prime Video’s debut coverage of the Masters Tournament at Augusta National Golf Club, marking a notable expansion of the tournament’s broadcast lineup. Amazon’s new coverage window (Thursday and Friday early-round segments) will complement long-standing partners CBS and ESPN, while also featuring interviews with current players and additional special guests tied to Masters history. Nicklaus’ involvement is especially symbolic because it coincides with the 40th anniversary of his 1986 Masters victory, one of the most iconic wins in tournament history.

Estadio Banorte reopening marred by death of fan
Mexico City’s Estadio Banorte officially reopened with a friendly match between the Mexico national team and Portugal after a major renovation ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, but the event was overshadowed by the death of a fan who fell from a box-seat level shortly before kickoff. Authorities reported the individual, reportedly intoxicated, attempted to move between seating levels along the stadium’s exterior and fell to the ground floor despite medical assistance. The reopening also marked the debut of upgrades including new seating, screens, locker rooms, and premium hospitality areas, as well as the appointment of former FC Barcelona executive Ferran Reverter as general manager of the stadium and Club América.

Bulls Waive Jaden Ivey After Anti-LGBTQ Rants
The Chicago Bulls waived Jaden Ivey after a series of recent livestreamed religious remarks that included anti-LGBTQ comments, which the team viewed as conduct detrimental to the organization. The decision followed several days of controversial statements on social media that drew backlash and raised concerns internally about professionalism and alignment with team values. The move abruptly ended Ivey’s short stint with the Bulls after arriving earlier in 2026, leaving his immediate NBA future uncertain.

Alabama Leads College Football in Private Jet Spending
College football programs are increasingly spending large sums on private jet travel—mainly for recruiting, coaching logistics, and administrative needs—with Alabama Crimson Tide football, Nebraska Cornhuskers football, and Michigan Wolverines football each exceeding $1 million in non-game-related private flight expenses in 2025. The spending reflects how jets have become a competitive tool in the NIL and transfer-portal era, with some coaches receiving guaranteed personal flight hours in their contracts and boosters sometimes donating aircraft time to programs. Despite the growing investment—especially across the SEC and Big Ten—the data shows no clear correlation between private-jet spending and on-field success.
