Kathy Johnson Clarke Joins Flipping Out Podcast to Discuss Suni Lee’s Determination in Getting to the Olympic Trials
Suni Lee walked away from the 2020 Tokyo Olympics with three medals, including the most coveted of all—the all-around gold. Lee then focused on her collegiate career at Auburn University, where she would go on to make history as the first Olympic all-around champion to compete at the NCAA level. She was doing better than ever when she was diagnosed with not one but two kidney diseases at the beginning of 2003.
Sports commentator and former gymnast and Olympic medalist Kathy Johnson Clarke joined the Flipping Out Podcast with Bridget Sloan to discuss Lee’s performance at the Xfinity U.S. Championship, during which Lee qualified for the Olympic trials, saying, “She is the best beam worker in the country, if not the world right now. Doris Burke on Calling NBA Finals: ‘I Am Sort of Mindful That There is Something Meaningful Here’
“My focus is in preparing for the games in front of me. ... But I would be lying if I didn’t tell you that I am sort of mindful that there is something meaningful here, right,” she said. “And the meaning for me would be if, in some way, this assignment makes life for women in sports easier or somehow aids in their process, then nothing could be more meaningful.

Report: Lakers Targeting UConn's Dan Hurley for Head Coaching Job
According to ESPN per Yahoo Sports, the Los Angeles Lakers are targeting Hurley as the team’s next coach. UConn has won back-to-back NCAA titles under Hurley over the last two seasons. The Lakers are looking for a coach to replace Darvin Ham after getting eliminated in the first round of the playoffs by the Denver Nuggets this spring.
While former Duke and NBA player J.J. Redick had been seen as the frontrunner for the Lakers job in recent days, the Lakers are reportedly preparing to offer Hurley a “massive” contract for him to come to the NBA.
Yahoo! Sports’ Dan Devine also wrote an opinion piece about how college coaches have traditionally not fared well in the NBA.

Blackhawks Remove Chris Vosters From TV Booth, Hire Veteran NHL Broadcaster Rick Ball
As The Athletic’s Scott Powers writes, “Following in Hall of Fame broadcaster Pat Foley’s footsteps as the TV voice of the Chicago Blackhawks was never going to be easy for anyone. But that was especially the case for Chris Vosters, an out-of-the-box hire with a ton of energy and personality but limited hockey experience.
“The Blackhawks hoped Vosters would grow into the job and fans would grow to love him. But after two seasons of neither happening at the Blackhawks’ preferred pace, the organization decided to reassess.”

NCAA OK's On-Field Sponsor Logos for Regular-Season Football Games
ESPN’s Heather Dinich reports: “Starting this season, the NCAA will allow commercial sponsor advertisements on football fields for regular-season games in all three divisions.
“The rule allows for corporate advertisements to be placed in three spots on the field: A single advertisement centered on the 50-yard line, along with no more than two smaller flanking advertisements elsewhere on the field. It can be done on a game-by-game basis or for the entire season.”

FSU Athletic Association Lags in Cash and Clout
Eben Novy-Williams and Daniel Libit of Sportico report that, “As of June 30, 2023, the organization that operates the athletic department held total assets of $12,645 and liabilities of $2.3 million, according to the organization’s most recent audited financial statements. Its FY23 tax return showed only $1.34 million in gross receipts during that period, and expenses of $343,339.
“Needless to say, these figures pale in comparison to the $170 million in revenue and $172 million in expenses Florida State’s athletic department reported to the NCAA for that same time period. This discrepancy—and its general lack of financial activity—has made FSUAA an oddity among university athletic associations in its state and around the country.”
