TOCA Social Launches Friday at Grandscape With Brandon Aubrey as an Investor
TOCA Social is a soccer-driven entertainment concept that first launched in London in 2021. It was founded by two-time U.S. World Cup veteran and MLS player Eddie Lewis. The first U.S. venue is opening today at Grandscape in The Colony, a suburb north of Dallas. Dallas Cowboys placekicker Brandon Aubrey is investing in the launch of TOCA Social Dallas. Aubrey was a pro soccer player before joining the Cowboys and has become one of the NFL’s most accurate, long-hitting kickers.

Octagon handling activations for eight FIFA World Cup sponsors
Octagon has the most sponsors and will hire the most temporary workers to implement their plans. Octagon is behind eight World Cup sponsors’ activation plans, including A-B/InBev, Aramco, Bank of America and The Home Depot. Octagon CEO John Shea said 400-500 temporary workers will be or are being hired to service those sponsors, with most going out in May.

WNBPA says new WNBA CBA proposal 'not worth taking' as concerns emerge
The WNBPA remained steadfast on Wednesday, March 4, that the league’s current proposal is “not worth taking.” Kelsey Plum and Breanna Stewart cited “a lack of adequate player involvement in the process" thus far and warned of the harm a potential work stoppage would do to the league's financial outlook in a three-page letter sent earlier this week to players’ union executive director Terri Jackson.

Netflix deal shuts out Japan’s sports bars from freely showing WBC
The 2026 World Baseball Classic is only being streamed on Netflix. Sports bars across the country are not allowed to or are discouraged from broadcasting the game for commercial use. Netflix said its services are “limited to the customer’s personal, noncommercial use.” Bourbon Street, a sports bar in Tokyo’s Shibuya Ward, had a packed audience for each of the 2023 WBC games. This time, they are unable to show the games.

Chicago Fire breaks ground on $750m stadium project
MLS club Chicago Fire has broken ground on its new $750 million privately-funded stadium in the South Loop neighborhood of the city. The stadium will seat more than 22,000 fans and feature a natural grass playing surface. In addition to serving as the permanent home of the Fire, the venue will host concerts, international sports matches, community events, and other large-scale programming year-round.

New York Giants will opening training camp in West Virginia
The New York Giants have a new head coach this season and are changing things up early. John Harbaugh will take the Giants to the Allegheny Mountains in West Virginia for at least the first few weeks of training camp. They will practice at the famous Greenbrier Resort. This is due to ongoing construction at Quest Diagnostics Training Center in East Rutherford.

Inside Underdog’s Layoffs: AI Push and Prediction Markets
Underdog laid off more than 20% of its staff last week. The cuts are attributed to the company’s push into prediction markets. The layoffs affected at least 125 people and included cuts in the fraud operations department, customer support, graphics, marketing and more. Underdog now has a little over 500 employees.
