Shohei Ohtani tops 2024 MLB player jersey sales as Nike promises uniform changes
Los Angeles Dodgers titan Shohei Ohtani led all Major League Baseball players in jersey sales for a second consecutive year. Speaking about jerseys, the MLB has announced it will gradually make changes to regular team uniforms over the next two years. Players and fans have had complaints about the new materials introduced this season. Nike is set to make more lightweight and thinner jerseys.

United Airlines and Monumental Sports & Entertainment have completed a wide-ranging sponsorship deal. United Airlines has the rights and marketing inventory across MSE’s Capitals, Wizards, Mystics, Capital One Arena and the Monumental Sports Network RSN.

DirecTV, Dish Network Deal Arrives Too Late In The Game
The acquisition of Dish Network would make DirecTV the largest pay-TV operator in the U.S. by far. DirecTV agrees to pay a single dollar for EchoStar’s satellite unit, a nominal sum that will be offset by the assumption of $9.75 billion in Dish’s debt. The deal is expected to close in the second half of 2025.

Charles Barkley Expanding Media Empire Even as He Sticks With TNT
Charles Barkley said he’ll stay with TNT even after TNT loses the NBA rights after the 2024-25 NBA season. ESPN and NBC executives said they would love to sign Barkley for the future NBA coverage. Barkley is already making moves with his production company, Round Mound Media, which just landed a new investment from RedBird IMI.

The Giants have fired President of Baseball Operations Farhan Zaidi. Buster Posey has replaced Zaidi. Zaidi had a “heavily criticized tenure” for almost six seasons.

UCLA Baseball Shut Out of Stadium Amid Veterans Lawsuit
A federal judge has locked UCLA baseball out of its stadium and practice field starting at noon on Thursday. The judge is doing this because Veteran Affairs leases portions of land to several entities, including an oil drilling company, a local private school, parking lots and UCLA. To open the areas back up, the school needs to present a plan for the land that makes serving the veterans the “predominant focus” of the 10 acres.

Hoops powerhouse Gonzaga set to join rebuilt Pac-12
Basketball powerhouse Gonzaga is the latest member to join the rebuilt Pac-12 Conference. The college will move from the West Coast Conference, where it has dominated for most of the last quarter century. Gonzaga is the eighth member of the conference. They will begin their Pac-12 journey starting July 1, 2026.

Dartmouth Challenges NLRB Complaint In Men’s Basketball Case
Dartmouth College answered a complaint for an unfair labor practice charge by insisting its men’s basketball players are relying on “an impermissible attempt to create a new law that is not entitled to deference and will not withstand judicial scrutiny.” The college cited the ruling in the Loper Bright Enterprises v. Raimondo case that concerned regulatory fees imposed by a federal agency for the collection of conversation data by herring fishing companies.
