Court Tosses Fanatics Antitrust Class Action Over Lack of Standing and Evidence
Chief U.S. District Judge Laura Taylor Swain dismissed a 13-count class action lawsuit accusing Fanatics and major professional sports leagues of monopolizing the sports trading card market. The court ruled that the 18 named plaintiffs failed to establish Article III standing, as they relied on general internet complaints rather than providing evidence of personal concrete injuries or specific transactions. While this decision resolves consumer-led claims regarding indirect sales, Fanatics continues to face a separate antitrust lawsuit brought directly by rival manufacturer Panini.
