Mappedin’s indoor digital maps helping sports fans navigate, venues operate
Mappedin, an indoor mapping firm founded by Hongwei Liu, uses a computer vision model to transform 2D floor plans into interactive 3D digital maps for over 10,000 venues. The company’s technology serves both fans, through personalized wayfinding similar to Google Maps, and venue operators, who use "sensor fusion" to integrate security cameras and real-time operational data. By offering a more cost-effective alternative to traditional "digital twins," Mappedin has successfully expanded its sports practice to over 50 clients, including major stadiums like Lumen Field.

Bill would ban private equity 'vulture investors' from youth sports.
The Let Kids Play Act is a proposed federal bill that aims to ban private equity firms from owning or investing in youth sports teams, leagues, and facilities to combat skyrocketing participation costs. Lawmakers argue that "vulture practices" and consolidation by investment groups have turned community activities into profit vehicles, pricing out many families. If passed, the law would require these firms to divest from youth sports within two years and empower families to sue for damages caused by anti-competitive practices.

Fubo rescinds offers to 13 NBA teams in search of new TV home
Fubo has rescinded its offers to serve as the local broadcast home for 13 NBA teams previously tied to the defunct FanDuel Sports Networks, citing that the deals were no longer "fiscally prudent." The company pointed to the high risk of proposed minimum guarantees and the likelihood that the NBA will centralize local broadcast rights starting in the 2027-28 season as primary reasons for the withdrawal. Consequently, these teams are now exploring alternative options, including over-the-air deals with local affiliates or partnering with other streaming services like DAZN and Victory+.

OnlyFans Is Paying Pro Athletes What Their Sports Won’t
OnlyFans has emerged as a significant financial lifeline for professional athletes in underfunded or niche sports, such as beach volleyball and speed skating, who often struggle to cover the high costs of training and competition. Approximately 285 athletes now use the platform to generate income through a mix of official sponsorship deals, monthly subscriptions, and fan interactions, ranging from safe-for-work lifestyle content to more provocative material. However, this association remains controversial, with some athletes facing disciplinary actions or bans from governing bodies due to the platform's reputation for adult content.

ACC's Jim Phillips 'not worried' about Duke-Amazon deal
ACC commissioner Jim Phillips expressed full support for Duke’s landmark deal to broadcast three nonconference basketball games on Amazon Prime Video, calling the move a creative way to generate new revenue. While Phillips noted that both the conference and ESPN were closely involved in the negotiations, the agreement has drawn criticism from Big Ten commissioner Tony Petitti, who suggested Michigan’s involvement should entitle his league to a share of the profits. The deal highlights a potential loophole for schools to monetize out-of-conference games played outside their league's geographic footprint, leading some administrators to worry about the long-term impact on traditional media rights packages.
