The Open gets minimal prize money increase amid golf sustainability fears
R&A is concerned about the impact on financial sustainability and the perception of golf. The winner at Royal Troon will receive a record $3.1 million in prize money, which is an increase of $100k. Although, Rory McIlroy admitted he is “sick” of the talk of money in men’s professional golf.
McIlroy said, “They (fans) want to watch good golf and watch people compete against each other. The fans don’t care if you’re making this or this guy is on US$200,000 a week, it just doesn’t resonate to them.”

In just the first three months of the 2024 season, the Yankees made $257.6 million in ticket sales. The club sold more tickets since the start of the calendar year than it had at this point in 2023, totaling $162 million. Before the team’s home opener, they had sold $199 million in tickets.

Ligue De Football Professionnel (LFP) fails to sell the domestic broadcast rights to Ligue 1, the top division of French club football. The 2024-25 season starts in just over a month. LFP president Vincent Labrune hoped to spark a bidding war involving current broadcast partners Amazon Prime and Canal+, as well as Qatar-based beIN Sports, British sports streamer DAZN and potential U.S. media giant Apple. The two potential options on the table for LFP are DAZN or launching its own channel with Warner Bros Discovery.

Jim Ratcliffe has been in charge of Manchester United for six months and has his focus on the men’s team over the women’s team.
