Terry Rozier, Chauncey Billups Arrested in FBI Gambling Probes
The FBI arrested Heat guard Terry Rozier, Trail Blazers head coach Chauncey Billups and former NBA player Damon Jones. The three men were part of a federal probe into illegal gambling. Rozier and Jones were accused of being part of an NBA gambling scheme where they provided inside information on the league. Billups was charged for his role in a rigged poker game run by an organized scheme.

NFL approves sale of minority stake in New York Giants to Julia Koch at a $10.3B valuation
The NFL signed off on Julia Koch’s purchase of a 10% stake in the New York Giants. The transaction values the team at $10.3 billion. This marks the highest valuation placed on an NFL team for a team sale. Two other sales were also approved. Dean Metropoulos and Sixth Street Partners bought an 8% stake in the Patriots. Fortress Investment Group Executive Chairman Pete Briger Jr. picked up a 3.2% stake in 49ers.

MLB playoffs post best ratings since 2017 ahead of Dodgers-Blue Jays World Series
The MLB announced that its playoff games have averaged 4.48 million viewers across 40 games. This makes it the league’s most-watched postseason since 2017. The viewership is a 13% increase over last year’s numbers. The ratings have been particularly strong in Canada and Japan. Game 7 drew 15.03 million combined between Sportsnet and the Fox family of networks and streaming.

DraftKings Is Paying Up to $250M for Prediction-Market Railbird
DraftKings is paying $250 million to buy prediction-markets platform Railbird Exchange. DraftKings has not committed to offering sports event contracts, which have gained notoriety but are controversial because of their similarity to sports betting. The entry of traditional sportsbooks into prediction markets is an acceleration for the space.

The NFL’s Pro Bowl is moving to Super Bowl week
The NFL announced the 2026 Pro Bowl Games will be held during Super Bowl LX week. The main event will still be the flag football game, which will take place on the Tuesday of Super Bowl week. The AFC vs. NFC flag football game will be held at 8pm ET on Feb. 3 at the Moscone Center in San Francisco. The event will air on ESPN.

Daytona 500 moves in 2027 to avoid collision with Super Bowl. NASCAR makes way for NFL
The 69th running of the DAYTONA 500 will take place on Sunday, Feb. 21, 2027. This will avoid the race clashing with the Super Bowl. The Super Bowl is on Feb. 14 at SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles. President of the Daytona International Speedway says, “The decision was made to move the Daytona 500 to allow for it to stand on its own.”

WTA Tour appoints David Highhill as head of strategy
David Highhill is the new Head of Strategy for the Women’s Tennis Association. Highhill will lead the development and execution of long-term initiatives that support growth, innovation and competitive advantage. He will also be responsible for coordinating activity across functions to ensure alignment of business priorities. He was previously the general manager for sports betting at the NFL.

Lewis Hamilton named world’s most marketable athlete for 2025
Lewis Hamilton is a seven-time world champion Formula One driver. He has been named the world’s most marketable athlete for the second time after topping SportsPro’s 16th annual list of the world’s 50 Most Marketable Athletes. He is the oldest athlete to rank in the 50MM at 40 years old.

SEC fines Texas A&M $50,000, issues public reprimand of Mike Elko for having player fake injury
The Southeastern Conference fined Texas A&M $50,000, and coach Mike Elko received a public reprimand after the National Coordinator for Football Officiating reviewed tape of an incident in the fourth quarter of the Aggies' win over Arkansas. The review determined that Texas A&M directed a player to go down with a fake injury. Defensive back Tyreek Chappell was not contacted on a play where he went down. He also returned to the game on the second play of the ensuing defensive possession.
