Smart ring firm Oura achieves $11bn valuation as it raises fresh funds
Oura was founded in 2012 and launched its first consumer product in 2015. The manufacturer is now valued at $11 billion after raising $900 million in new funding to continue its development of its connected fitness and health technology. The Series E round was led by Fidelity Management & Research Company. Other investors include Iconiq, Whale Rock and Atreides.

NBA announces award winners, debut patch programs for new season
Fantastics/Topps will bring its debut patch and gold logo patch programs to the NBA. Every rookie will wear an NBA debut patch on his uniform. It will be removed after player and put onto an on-card-autographed, one-of-one numbered rookie card. The 2024-25 season's Most Valuable Player, Rookie of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year will have a Gold NBA Logoman Patch placed on their uniforms, which will also be removed and inserted into rare trading cards.

Texas-Oklahoma Gets 8.7M Viewers, Most-Watched CFB Game of Week 7
The Red-River Rivalry was the most-watched college football game of Week 7. The game had 8.7 million viewers. This marks the largest TV audience for a Texas-Oklahoma regular-season matchup since 2009. The game beat out the Indiana-Oregon Big Ten clash that also aired that day.

SPIRE Academy opens youth athlete innovation lab
SPIRE Academy is an international youth sports program based in Ohio. They announced the start of an innovation lab called the SPIRE Performance Research Institute. The concept seeks to apply a comprehensive approach to youth sports, from mental and physical training, injury recovery and prevention, as well as foster the injection of technology throughout the athlete experience.

Florida focus for USL’s latest expansion
The United Soccer League is continuing its stadium development drive with two new franchises and the venues. Port St. Lucie Sports Club has been awarded a franchise. The men’s side intends to kick off in 2027 and compete in the USL League One. The new stadium is to be constructed at Walton & One, a mixed-use development.

US has $500 million drone security plan for 2026 World Cup
FIFA and federal law enforcement agencies have a plan to secure the skies over the World Cup stadiums. President Donald Trump’s administration plans to spend $500 million to stop potential drone threats. The money from the Department of Homeland Security’s budget will be available to all 50 states to help mitigate the effects of unmanned aircraft systems.

Dawn Staley Says NBA Far From Ready to Hire a Female Head Coach
South Carolina women’s basketball coach Dawn Staley doesn't think the NBA will hire a female head coach in their lifetime. The Knicks ultimately hired former Cavaliers, Lakers, and Kings head coach Mike Brown, but Staley, who has led the Gamecocks to three national championships, previously said she would have left South Carolina to take the job if it were offered to her.

Rockies interviewing external candidates for head of baseball operations
The Colorado Rockies are interviewing candidates for the head of baseball operations job. They have interviewed at least three candidates: James Click, Scott Sharp and Matt Forman. Click is the Blue Jays vice president of baseball strategy and former Astros general manager. Sharp is the Royals’ senior vice president and assistant general manager. Forman is the Guardians executive vice president and general manager.
