The New York Giants fired head coach Brian Daboll. The Giants lost their fourth straight game on Sunday. Assistant head coach/offensive coordinator Mike Kafka will take over in an interim role. Daboll went 2-8 this season, dropping his career record as the Giants’ head coach to 20-40-1.

Aryna Sabalenka Caps Richest Season in Women’s Tennis History
Aryan Sabalenka was runner-up at the WTA Finals in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. She took home $2.7 million. Her 2025 total profits are now at $15 million. This is the largest single-season earnings total in WTA history. The record was previously held by Serena Williams, who made $12.4 million in 2013. Sabalenka is ranked No. 2 in the career earnings ladder. She is up to $45.2 million for her career.

Atlético de Madrid to Welcome Apollo Sports Capital as Majority Shareholder
Atlético de Madrid and its shareholders have reached an agreement for Apollo Sports Capital, the global sports investment company of Apollo, to become the Club’s majority shareholder. Miguel Ángel Gil and Enrique Cerezo will continue to lead the team as Chief Executive Officer and President and remain shareholders. The shareholder group intends to invest additional capital to support the Club’s long-term plans, including further investment in Atlético de Madrid’s teams and in major infrastructure projects.

Fastbreak AI raises US$40m to expand smart scheduling tech
Fastbreak AI has raised $40 million in funding to continue its development of its smart scheduling software and expand into the youth sports market. Greycroft and GTMFund are two investors. Fastbreak AI is already used by 55 major leagues around the world. The algorithm helps to optimize competition schedules to reduce travel time, maximize television audiences and ticket sales, and adhere with local regulations.

Transgender women to be banned from all female Olympic events
The International Olympic Committee is set to announce a ban on transgender women in female competition early next year. A science-based review of evidence about permanent physical advantages of being born male is what made the committee make the ruling. New president, Kirsty Coventry, has promised to protect the female category.

NWSL awards Atlanta expansion team for ‘US$165m’
The National Women’s Soccer League awarded its 17th team to Atlanta for a record expansion fee of $165 million. Arthur Blank’s AMB Sports + Entertainment will own the team. The new club will debut in 2028. The last time a professional women’s soccer team represented the city was the Atlanta Beat. They played I the Women’s United Soccer Association from 2001-2003.

LPGA hires former LIV executive Monica Fee as new sales chief
LPGA commissioner Craig Kessler hired Monica Fee. Fee was the former senior vice president and head of global partnerships at LIV Golf. She will now be the new Chief of Sales and Partnerships Officer for the LPGA. Fee will begin her position on Jan. 5, 2026.

NYC Marathon’s Record Turnout Intensifies Age Polarization Trend
The New York City Marathon broke the record for the most finishers in a marathon with over 59,226 people. Two demographics have helped that number to increase over the years: people younger than 30 and older than 60. The largest age bracket at the event was 25-29, with nearly 11,000 coming from that cohort alone. In total, 89% more men and 91% more women aged 18-29 finished the 2025 race compared to a decade ago in 2015.

UCLA could start playing at SoFi Stadium as soon as next year, report says
The UCLA Bruins are interested in moving their home football games to SoFi Stadium in Inglewood. Multiple sources inside the UCLA athletic department say the team’s move to SoFi Stadium is happening in time for next season. However, no final decision has been made.
