WBD puts itself up for sale as Paramount eyes takeover
Warner Bros Discovery has put itself up for sale amid interest from rival media group Paramount and other unidentified suitors. WBD owns HBO Max, TNT Sports and other properties. Paramount itself was acquired earlier this year. The combined entity would have NFL, NHL, MLB, NCAA and UFC rights. WBD plans to split its streaming and studio operations from its cable television business by mid-2026.

UEFA joins anti-piracy group ACE
The Union of European Football Associations has joined the Alliance for Creativity and Entertainment. They are the first exclusive sports rights-holder to align with the world’s largest coalition fighting digital piracy. ACE includes more than 50 major entertainment companies and studios who work together to protect copyrighted material and combat worldwide streaming-related piracy. UEFA will participate in ACE’s Live Tier program, which focuses on identifying and dismantling illegal operations that distribute pirated live sports broadcasts.

Will Las Vegas be awarded another Super Bowl this week?
The NFL owners hold their fall meeting this week. Las Vegas could learn whether it will be named the host city for the 2029 Super Bowl. The NFL and Las Vegas have recently began exclusive negotiations for hosting duties for Super Bowl 63 at Allegiat Stadium. The Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority submitted the city’s bid.

Sacramento Steps Up, Begins Push for MLB Expansion Franchise
Sacramento Mayor Kevin McCarty is ready to make the city’s push for MLB expansion. The League is expected to expand in the coming years, and commissioner Rob Manfred has said that he would like to be the one that chooses the sites before he retires in 2029. Sacramento helped solve the MLB’s problem by giving the A’s a place to play ball outside of Oakland while the Las Vegas stadium was being built.

Jack Nicklaus wins $50m verdict in defamation case over LIV Golf allegations
The 18-time major champion, Jack Nicklaus, has won a $50 million verdict in a defamation case against his former company. Nicklaus Companies defamed him by spreading false claims that he had considered a $750 million offer to become a public face of the Saudi-backed LIV Golf League and that he was no longer mentally fit to manage his business affairs.

Angels to hire ex-catcher Kurt Suzuki as manager
The Los Angeles Angels are hiring Kurt Suzuki as the manager. Suzuki is a longtime major league catcher with no professional coaching experience. His goal will be to turn around the franchise that has the longest playoff drought in the league. He has spent the last three years as a special assistant to Angels general manager Perry Minasian.

Steve Spurrier wants Florida coaching search focused on 'proven winner,' cites Lane Kiffin and Eli Drinkwitz
Florida is in the market for a new head football coach. They recently fired Billy Napier amid a 3-4 start to the season. This will be the fifth new head coach since 2010. Steve Spurrier was the man casting long shadow over the Florida sideline as the greatest coach in program history. He said Lane Kiffin and Eli Drinkwitz are good coaches.
