How the TikTok Ban Threat is Affecting Advertisers and Creators
While not specifically sports-related, the implications are far-reaching 👉🏼 “This caught people slightly off guard,” said one social media specialist at an ad agency after the anti-TikTok bill cleared its first hurdle in the U.S. on Wednesday, who spoke on condition of anonymity. “We are certainly thinking about recommendations for clients and the pivots we may have to make.”

NBA Explores Europe Options, Including Launch of New League
As Sportico’s Kurt Baudenhausen writes, “Those conversations are ongoing, but now for the first time, the NBA is considering a variety of more ambitious options that could exclude the EuroLeague. One of those would include a new standalone NBA Europe league, according to multiple people familiar with the NBA’s thinking who were not authorized to speak publicly.”

Your Vision Insights: Growth Opportunity in the NWSL
Of all the exposure being generated by TV Visible graphics and placements during NHL games, we see a TON of interest nationally in NWSL with growing club fan bases....but that fandom is still forming and in a bit of a maturation process given that less than half of each club's fan bases consider that team to be their favorite team in the league. This tells us that fans are still considering their options and that clubs have a major opportunity to communicate with, attract, and forge these lifelong fandoms right now.

NFL Free Agency: $1B+ Plus in Deals, but the Fine Print Shows True Value
As FOS’ David Rumsey writes, “NFL free agents can’t officially sign with their new teams until 4 p.m. ET on Wednesday, but already, well north of $1 billion in contracts, and counting, have been agreed to during the league’s two-day negotiating period…
Take the five contracts below, which involve some of the biggest names in the market. Together, the deals represent $627.75 million over 21 years. The catch is that just 55% of that money is fully guaranteed, and opportunities for teams to end deals early could reduce the deals to as little as $394.8 million.”

Sources: NBC Eyeing Diffey for Lead NASCAR Voice
NBC Sports is reportedly planning a switch to its NASCAR booth for part of the 2024 season. Fox Sports and NBC Sports currently split the NASCAR season roughly 50/50. NBC’s first race this year isn’t until mid-June. Since NBC picked NASCAR media rights back up in 2015, Rick Allen has been the lead announcer for NBC’s portion. But this year, Allen will only call Cup Series races through the Olympic Games. The plan is for Leigh Diffey to take over as lead announcer for Cup races and continue through the duration of the 2024 season.

Netflix’s Live Sports Vulcan Chess
Rival executives have characterized the streamer’s recent live events as a sign of desperation—or simply P.R. stunts to jumpstart its ad revenue efforts. But this critique underestimates the Sarandos strategy and its ultimate ambition.

Young, Fun and World Series-Bound
As The Athletic’s Levi Weaver and Ken Rosenthal write in their MLB newsletter, “OK, I’ll just say it: I think the Baltimore Orioles are going to the World Series in 2024. They already have perhaps the best collection of young talent in the game, with last year’s Rookie of the Year Gunnar Henderson (and 2022’s runner-up Adley Rutschman) heading up the group…”
