2025 Major League Baseball Luxury Tax Payrolls List
The final 2025 payrolls for the 30 major league teams for purposes of the luxury tax are here. Figures are for the 40-man rosters and include the average annual values of contracts and $17,209,029 per club for benefits and extended benefits. Also included is $1,666,667 per team for the pre-arbitration bonus pool. The luxury tax is assessed starting on the amount above $241 million.

Wolves could be left scrambling if FanDuel Sports Networks fold mid-season
The Minnesota Timberwolves could be having some issues with the television distribution of their games. Main Street Sports Group missed a payment to the St. Louis Cardinals in December and could wind up dissolving its business by next summer, or earlier, unless a last-ditch sale to DAZN takes places by January. Main Street is the successor to Diamond Sports Group as owner of the FanDuel Sports Network regional channels that hold the broadcast rights to 30 franchises across the NBA, NHL and MLB. If the DAZN sale doesn’t go through, Main Street will shutter at the end of this year’s NBA and NHL seasons.

Hoffmann Family To Acquire Controlling Interest In Pittsburgh Penguins From Fenway Sports Group
Fenway Sports Group and Hoffmann Family of Companies announced that they have entered into a definitive agreement from the Hoffmanns to acquire a controlling interest in the Pittsburgh Penguins. The Hoffmann family also owns the Florida Everglades of the ECHL. The family-owned private equity enterprise has over 125 global brands led by brothers Geoff and Greg Hoffmann.

PNC blended tech and branding with robot activations at the PNC Championship. There are fairway concierge robots that deliver branded merchandise and vanilla ice cream on-site. The bank also activated a branded branch façade behind the 18th tee, highlighting plans to build 300 new branches by 2030, including 100 in Florida.

Ole Miss sets Guinness World Record in College Football Playoff against Tulane
Ole Miss made College Football Playoff history on Saturday. A crowd of 68,002 fans set a Guinness World Record for the largest gathering of people wearing Santa hats. This surpassed the previous mark of 30,333 set by the Anaheim Angels.

New entertainment district planned for downtown Tampa
Strategic Property Partners announced the plans for a new entertainment district with a live music venue, hotel and more in downtown Tampa, Florida. A carpark will be built across the street from Benchmark International Arena and Yardhouse. The live music venue will seat 3,500. Groundbreaking is anticipated to happen in 2027.

ESPN Hires New Top Editor
Roxanna Scott has been hired for a newly created position at ESPN. She will be the top editor for ESPN across all of TV and digital news gathering, including investigative reporting and enterprise journalism. Her official title will be SVP, editor-in-chief. Scott spent nearly 20 years as a sports editor at USA Today. For the last several months, she has been the managing editor of the daily desk at The Athletic.
