Major League Baseball names Polymarket exclusive prediction market partner
The MLB is partnering with Polymarket to offer exclusive rights and data. Polymarket will be its official prediction market partner. The league also signed an agreement with the Commodity Futures Trading Commission to share information with each other. Polymarket and its brokers will gain exclusive access to MLB logos and official data and receive “brand exposure” across league events. The MLB said the agreement will include a “comprehensive integrity framework.”

Orel Hershiser, Luis Gonzalez Join NBC MLB Opening Day Coverage
World Series heroes Orel Hershiser and Luis Gonzalez will be on the NBC MLB Opening Day telecast. Hershiser and Gonzalez will join play-by-play announcer Jason Benetti in the broadcast booth for NBC’s primetime telecast of Dodgers-Diamondbacks from Los Angeles on March 26.

New professional baseball league for women debuts this week
The Women’s Pro Baseball League spring training begins this week. The season will start on Aug. 1. This marks the first league for women in more than seven decades. Olivia Bricker, one of the players in the new Women's Pro Baseball League, is leading a skills clinic in Cincinnati, Ohio, surrounded by about a dozen girls. The new league has four teams in New York, Boston, Los Angeles and San Francisco.

Iran will not play World Cup games in U.S., says soccer chief
The Iranian national team will not travel to the United States to play in the World Cup. However, the team is still practicing. Team Melli are scheduled to play all three of their opening-round group matches in the U.S., but Taj said on Monday the Iranian FA (FFIRI) was negotiating with FIFA to have them moved to Mexico.

NFL seeks list of possible replacement refs if CBA not reached
The NFL is laying the groundwork for hiring replacement officials for the season if the league is unable to agree on a new collective bargaining agreement with the NFL Referees Association. The current CBA is due to expire at the end of May. The league is looking for a list of about 150 mostly small college officials by the end of this weekend. Those officials could begin onboarding as early as April, then attend a four-day clinic in May. Absent a CBA agreement, they would continue training through the summer and make visits to training camps before the regular season begins.

Howie Rose set to retire from Mets radio booth after ‘26 season
Play-by-play announcer for the Mets, Howie Rose, will retire after this season. Rose broke into the broadcasting field in 1975 and has been part of the Mets universe since 1996, calling games on both television and radio. Rose will not call any road games this year until the postseason. Over the past several years, he’s had health issues stemming from a battle with bladder cancer that began in 2021.

Big Ten pushing new retention provision for revenue sharing cap
The Big Ten is pushing for a new provision that allows schools to exceed the revenue sharing cap in order to retain players. Big Ten athletic directors and Commissioner Tony Petitti are promoting a carve-out to let schools that have opted into the House settlement to spend beyond the stipulated revenue-sharing cap to maintain their rosters. The idea would be to allow schools to go a certain percentage or flat rate over the $20.5 million revenue sharing cap, sources said.
