NFL could allow private equity to own more than 10% of teams
NFL commissioner Roger Goodell suggested the NFL could allow private equity firms to acquire more than 10% of any franchise. The league voted last year to permit private equity firms to buy up to a tenth of a team. Speaking at The Summit, part of Leaders Week London 2025, Goodell suggested that the ten per cent limit placed on private equity investment could eventually be lifted.

Heat, Nikola Jović reportedly agree to four-year contract extension with franchise sitting at crossroads
Nikola Jović agreed to a four-year, $62.4 million contract extension with the Miami Heat. Jovićwas the 27th overall pick in the 2022 NBA Draft and has been with the team for three years. He finished last season averaging a career-high 10.7 points on 37% from 3-point range, though for the third consecutive year he struggled to stay healthy and was limited to just 46 games.

Viewership for Nascar has dropped 26% YoY compared to last year’s playoff race at Kansas. The sport averaged 1.49 million viewers for its Cup Series playoff race at Kansas Speedway on USA Network. Nascar has now averaged fewer than two million viewers for five consecutive races.

Bears Want $855M in Public Money for Suburban Stadium
The Chicago Bears officially have a new site for their planned stadium in Arlington Heights, Ill. They intend to play for much of the project themselves, but there could still be public money involved. The building is slated to cost $2 billion. The statement, however, also details a price tag of more than $5 billion for the entire development, slightly higher than the prior project of $4.7 billion, and calls for $855 million in public-sector investments in infrastructure.

Former president of the NWSL’s San Diego Wave, Jill Ellis, is accused of knowingly misleading the team’s new owners by promising to remain with the club after its sale. She resigned two days after the deal was completed. Ellis was the President for over four years and now works for FIFA.

Wembley seals deal for first college football game
London’s Wembley Stadium will host its first-ever college football match. The University of Kansas’ Jayhawks will host the Arizona State Sun Devils in the Union Jack Classic on Sept. 19, 2026. Tickets for the event will go on presale on Monday and general sales start on Thursday.

Duke reportedly signs coach Jon Scheyer to new 6-year contract, taking him through 2030-31 season
Duke men’s basketball head coach Jon Scheyer signed a new six-year contract. This will keep him at Duke through the 2030-31 season. The last time Scheyer received a contract extension was in 2023.
