Bad Bunny, U.S. Officials Trade Barbs Over Super Bowl Halftime Show
The choice of Bad Bunny performing at the Super Bowl Halftime show has become a political lightning rod. The U.S. government and the Puerto Rican superstar spent the weekend engaged in a war of words this past weekend. Bad Bunny is one of the most-streamed and top-selling musicians in the world. He has made very public points of playing most of his concerts outside the U.S. to help keep his Latino fans from being approached by Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

Big Ten, Allstate agree to deal around women’s sports
The Big Ten and Allstate announced a new multiyear deal to highlight women’s sports. The deal includes the creation of the Allstate Big Ten Women’s Championship series. This is a yearlong competition that will award points based on regular-season and postseason performance. Allstate is now the official insurance partner of the Big Ten.

LIV Golf’s UK losses increase to US$462m in 2024
The stats came in for the profits and losses for LIV Golf’s UK division. The UK arm saw its net losses rise to $461.8 million last year. This means it has lost more than $1.1 billion since being established in 2021. Cost of sales went up 24% to $500.3 million.

Sam Kennedy: Red Sox open to major change with MLB’s television setup
MLB commissioner Rob Manfred is looking to centralize the media rights of the teams. He expressed a desire to have all 30 teams under the league’s umbrella by 2028, when MLB’s current national broadcast deals expire. Sam Kennedy said the Red Sox are on board. The Red Sox currently own 80% of NESN and carry most of their regular-season games.

World Cup 2026 kick-offs likely to be after midnight in UK to combat searing US heat
The World Cup matches involving European nations are likely to be after midnight UK times next year. This is due to a bid to combat the heat problems that plagued this summer’s Club World Cup. The 5pm and 8pm kick-offs were in place to suit European broadcasters but caused a problem for player welfare, with these games often taking place in the hottest part of the American day.

Saints lock in long-term future at Superdome
The New Orleans Saints and Louisiana Stadium and Exposition District Commission agreed on a fresh lease deal. A new 10-year contract has been signed, including the option for four five-year extensions through 2055 that could keep the NFL franchise at the Caesars Superdome.

Phoenix Suns and Mercury secure US$115m UWM arena naming rights deal
The NBA Phoenix Spurs and the WNBA Phoenix Mercury have signed a new arena naming rights deal with United Wholesale Mortgage. The venue will be renamed the Mortgage Matchup Center. The ten-year agreement is worth nearly $115 million. This also becomes the official mortgage partner of the Suns, Mercury and for the G-League outfit Valley Suns.

Rangers hire Schumaker as new manager
The Rangers announced the hiring of Skip Schumaker to become the 21st full-time manager in franchise history. He signed a four-year deal through the 2029 season. Schumaker was recently the club’s senior adviser to the president of baseball operations, Chris Young.

Fox, ABC Reject Ad Accusing Power Conference Commissioners of Greed
FOX and ABC are refusing to run a new commercial that criticizes power-conference commissioners. Texas Tech booster and oil billionaire Cody Campbell has been lobbying against the NCAA-backed SCORE Act. He believes a new governing body should replace the NCAA, and that the Sports Broadcasting Act of 1961 should be amended to allow all college football media rights to be pooled and sold together.
