SEC Presses on With Lawsuit Against LSU
The Southeastern Conference (SEC) has filed an amended federal lawsuit against LSU to establish the legal authority to expel the university following its push to sign former NFL players. SEC presidents are scheduled to meet on Thursday, September 10, to vote on LSU's expulsion, which requires a two-thirds majority vote from member university presidents. Although LSU ultimately withheld two former NFL players from its season opener against Clemson, the SEC is seeking a temporary restraining order to prevent university and state officials from interfering with the expulsion vote.

How Liverpool’s ‘Record-Breaking’ New Jersey Sponsor Compares to Rival Clubs
Liverpool will replace Standard Chartered with Turkish Airlines as their primary shirt sponsor starting in the 2027–28 season, marking only their sixth front-of-shirt sponsor in nearly 50 years. The five-year contract is reported to be worth over $405 million (£300 million)—or at least $81 million per year—making it a significantly more lucrative arrangement than their current agreement. Club officials believe the deal stands as the most valuable exclusive shirt-sponsorship contract in world football, placing Liverpool ahead of domestic rivals like Manchester United and alongside top European clubs.

NYRA will consider 1 1/4-mile Belmont distance
The New York Racing Association is evaluating a permanent shift for the Belmont Stakes from its traditional 1 1/2-mile distance to 1 1/4 miles, even as track renovations preserve the larger oval. NYRA CEO Dave O'Rourke noted that modern breeding trends no longer prioritize the longer distance, making the classic length a potential headwind for the race. Additionally, the track layout adjustments at the newly rebuilt Belmont Park make starting 1 1/4-mile races fairer for horses drawn in outside post positions.
