Owner of the Washington Spirit, Olymique Lyonnais Féminin and London City Lionesses women’s soccer clubs Michele Kang announced a $4 million donation to the USA Women’s Rugby Sevens team. The money will be given over the course of four years.

Tristan Wirfs is an offensive tackle for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Wirfs just signed a record-breaking five-year, $140.63 million contract extension which includes $88.24 million guaranteed. This is the largest total commitment to any player in Buccaneers history.

Ligue 1 seals ‘$540m a year’ TV deals with DAZN and BeIN Sports
The French soccer’s Professional Football League has confirmed a five-year domestic rights deal with DAZN and BeIN Sports for a combined fee of $540 million per season. DAZN will show eight live Ligue 1 games each match day and the Trophée des Champions and play-off games. BeIn Sports will have the exclusive rights to one game per round.

Telemundo Paris Olympics Engagement Up 44% vs. Tokyo Games
Telemundo’s broadcast and streaming coverage of the 2024 Paris Olympics opening weekend had 318,000 total audience viewers. This is up 44% from the Tokyo 2020 Games. On linear television, Telemundo and Universo have had more than 12 million viewers. Telemundo also has had over 13 million views on social media so far.

Manchester United launch Web 3.0 fantasy soccer game and player card NFTs
Manchester United launched an official non-fungible token (NFT) based fantasy soccer game. Fantasy United sees players collect and trade player trading cards that score points based on real-life performances.
Ronan Joyce, director of digital innovation at Manchester United, said, “Player Trading Cards allows United fans to collect the whole men’s first team squad, to see those collectibles evolve throughout the season as games are played and goals are scored, and have the ability to play those cards in an exciting fantasy football game.”

Gordon Hayward retires after 14 NBA seasons with Utah, Boston, Charlotte and Oklahoma City
Gordon Hayward played 14 seasons in the NBA with Utah, Boston, Charlotte and Oklahoma City. He has now officially retired. He averaged 15.2 points in 853 career regular-season games. Hayward was an All-Star in 2017.

NFL is moving closer to replacing the chain gang with new technology to measure line to gain
NFL executive Gary Brantley said they will test Sony’s Hawk-Eye technology during some preseason games to measure line to gain.
“We’re in the installation phase for all of our stadiums, really getting them calibrated and up to date,” said Brantley, the NFL’s senior vice president and chief information officer. “We’re just really getting to a place where this system is as accurate as possible and really calibrating across our multiple stadiums. ... We have multiple stadiums with multiple dimensions inside of those stadiums with different age. So we’re really just going through the installation of putting in the infrastructure and making sure these cameras are installed.”
