Track and field athletes have been in the pursuit for more and better paydays. The Paris Olympics are helping with that. Athletes aren’t only chasing a gold medal, but also a $50,000 bonus from the sport’s global governing body for winning it. This is the first time in Olympic history that a sport’s global federation has directly compensated its medalists.

U.S. sprinter Kendall Ellis got locked inside a porta potty at the U.S. Olympic Track and Field Trials in Eugene, Ore., back in June. Charmin heard of this incident and decided to sponsor her. She is not running with a Charmin logo in Paris but will likely have all the toilet paper she could ever need.

USA Gymnastics to leverage Paris 2024 medal haul and LA runway in sponsorship rebuild
USA Gymnastics had great success in the 2024 Paris Olympics and looks to rebuild sponsorship deals when they compete in the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics. Brands such as Under Armour, P&G and Hershey’s ended their deals with the team after the Larry Nassar scandal. Nike, Comcast and Samsonite have signed deals with the governing body in the last 12 months. New sponsors would now have to incorporate athletes’ health and wellness into their partnerships.

Peacock will have longtime sports media rivals Scott Hanson and Andrew Siciliano share the screen for the first time during today’s edition of Gold Zone at 2 p.m. ET. The two hosts have competed for over 10 years. Hanson has hosted NFL Network’s NFL RedZone since its debut in 2009. Siciliano hosted DirecTV’s Red Zone from 2005-2022.

Second Kobe Bryant statue unveiled outside Lakers' arena
A statue of Kobe Bryant and daughter Gianna “Gigi” Bryant was built outside Crypto.com Arena. This is the second of three planned monuments to the Los Angeles Lakers legend. The first statue was a 19-foot bronze memorial unveiled on Feb. 8 to Bryant’s 81-point game against the Toronto Raptors.

Pro-NCAA Bill Sponsor Bob Good Benched From Congress
Rep. Bob Good, who sponsored legislation earlier this year that would prevent college athletes from obtaining employee status, lost his primary race to state Sen. John McGuire. Good introduced the “Protecting Student Athletes’ Economic Freedom Act,” which would not only forbid college athletes from being deemed employees of their schools but also their conferences and the NCAA.
