NFL Teams Hand Out Nearly $100M in 1-Year Deals at Tag Deadline
Four NFL players are getting tagged this offseason. The Colts placed the rarely used transition on quarterback Daniel Jones. Jones played last season on a one-year, $14 million contract. The transition tag salary for quarterbacks in 2026 is $37.83 million. Jones can negotiate with other teams, but the Colts have the ability to match any offer he gets. Cowboys wide receiver George Pickens, Falcons tight end Kyle Pitts Sr. and Jets running back Breece Hall were also tagged.

Chinese Billionaire Buys Miami Dolphins Stake At $12.5B Valuation
The Miami Dolphins added a new limited partner to their ownership group. Lin Bin is the co-founder and vice chairman of the Chinese consumer electronics company Xiaomi. He agreed to buy a 1% stake in the holding company that owns the Dolphins, Hard Rock Stadium, the Formula 1 Miami Grand Prix and a piece of Tennis’ Miami Open at a $12.5 billion valuation.

Liberty Media CEO Derek Chang talked about F1’s new five-year media rights deal with Apple at Morgan Stanley’s tech, media and telecom conference. He alluded to the concerns that the property’s move from ESPN streaming might affect U.S. viewership. Chang stressed that he sees not just a media deal but also a strategic partnership with a ubiquitous tech provider.

Boston 2026 says Kraft Group backing World Cup funding
Boston World Cup organizers told Foxborough town officials they would pay for about $8 million in security costs. Gary Ronan, an attorney for Goulston & Storrs representing the Boston 2026 host committee, told town officials the organization "is willing to pay for everything ... necessary to hold these events safely," and that it has a guarantee from the Kraft Group, which owns Gillette Stadium, to fund any shortfall. He added that the host committee would pay any costs within two business days of being invoiced.

Nu takes naming rights to Inter Miami stadium
Brazilian digital financial services company Nu agreed to a naming rights deal for the stadium at Miami Freedom Park. It is the new home of Inter Miami CF. The doors are prepared to open next month. Nu will be the main partner of the MLS team. Freedom Park will officially be named Nu Stadium. Nu and Inter Miami will create immersive experiences for fans and customers through curated programming and exclusive access. Nu will also anchor two signature spaces within Nu Stadium at Miami Freedom Park.

Prosecutors Close To Extending Several Plea Deals In Chauncey Billups Poker Case
Federal prosecutors in the alleged rigged poke case involving NBA Hall of Fame player and on-leave Portland Trail Blazers coach Chauncey Billups said in a court document that they expect to extend formal plea agreements to 12 defendants in the coming days. Negotiations are underway with several more. Thirty-one people were indicted on Oct. 23 on multiple wire fraud and conspiracy charges.

Why a College Basketball Game Organizer Is Fighting With Photo Services
None of the major photo wire services provided pictures of one of the biggest men’s college basketball matchups of the season. The photo wires run by the Associated Press, Thomson Reuters’ Imagn and Getty Images photo services refused to send photographers to No. 1 Duke’s win over No. 3 Michigan in Washington, D.C., on Feb. 21 due to a dispute over the credential policy of the event’s organizer, The Gazelle Group. The Gazelle Group, which facilitates such events, required photographers to grant it free use of photos taken at the event if they received a credential. As a result, no photographers from the three major wire services attended the game.

White House college sports roundtable still on despite global tensions
President Donald Trump called for a presidential roundtable on college sports for this Friday in Washington, D.C. Over 30 stakeholders and celebrities are expected to attend. Trump is serving as chair of the roundtable, with vice chairs Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis and New York Yankees president Randy Levine. The college sports roundtable is expected to hold a discussion around the evolving landscape of college sports, ranging from the transfer portal to revenue sharing to enforcement.
