LA's Olympic gamble
The current private funded budget for the LA28 Games is more than $7 billion. The federal government agreed to chip in $1 billion to pay for security and is contributing another $2 billion to pay for Games-specific transit plans. The city of L.A. is on the hook for the first $270 million in losses, if they occur. After that, any additional financial burden will fall on Los Angeles taxpayers. That means the city's financial exposure is essentially unlimited.

FanDuel Joins Prediction-Market Fray As New App Goes Live
FanDuel joined fellow sports betting giant DraftKings in the prediction-market sphere. FanDuel Predicts was launched on Monday. The app is available in Alabama, Alaska, South Carolina, North Dakota and South Dakota. More states will open up in the coming weeks. FanDuel Predicts will offer markets on financial and cultural questions, as well as sports, although sports event contracts—across baseball, basketball, football, and hockey—will only be available in states where online sports betting is not yet legal.

US prosecutors seek to abandon soccer TV rights corruption case
U.S. prosecutors told the Supreme Court that they want to give up their fight to preserve the convictions of a former Fox executive and a South America sports media company in a corruption case related to TV rights for international soccer tournaments. The battle has been going on for a year now. Hernan Lopez and Full Play Group SA were convicted in 2023 after a trial in New York but subsequently granted an acquittal by a judge.

The Association of Tennis Professionals has announced the launch of the ATP Store as part of a collaboration with Levy Merchandising. The store is scheduled to launch in January. It will serve as the dedicated global shopping destination for all things tennis.

Tyler Skaggs wrongful death trial ends as family reaches settlement with Angels
A settlement has been reached in the Tyler Skaggs wrongful death lawsuit against the Los Angeles Angels. The trial lasted three months. The Skaggs family was seeking $118 million in potential lost earnings plus added damages. The jury had agreed to award Skaggs’ family around $100 million before they were told to stop deliberating. Skaggs died in his hotel room while on a road trip with the team in 2019. He was 27. Toxicology reports revealed Skaggs died due to a combination of "alcohol, fentanyl and oxycodone intoxication with terminal aspiration of gastric contents."

LSU head coach Lane Kiffin will earn monetary rewards based on how far the Rebels advance in the College Football Playoffs. He will get a $250,000 performance bonus because the Rebels beat Tulane 41-10 to advance to the CFP quarterfinals. Kiffin’s bonus increases up to a total of $1 million, depending on how far Ole Miss advances.
