The Lucrative NBA Cup Is Here to Stay
The NBA Cup launched in 2023. When it launched, several players were ignorant of the tournament’s rules and the special courts forms and functions. There hasn’’t been any big changes to the tournament besides the name going from “NBA In-Season Tournament” to “NBA Cup.” The winner of the tournament will get $530,933 for each player this year thanks to CBA rules around basketball-related income.

Major League Soccer had an aggregate audience of 4.6 million viewers globally across linear and streaming on Dec. 6 for its MLS Cup. Inter Miami beat the Vancouver Whitecaps. The game had the largest-ever audience for the championship match. The viewers came from the combined coverage from Fox, Apple TV, TSN, RDS and TNT.

Trump threatens to seize control of Washington, D.C.’s public golf courses
Since 2020, East Potomac, Rock Creek and Langston golf courses have been operated by National Links Trust. It is a nonprofit seeking to renovate the courses and provide affordable, accessible public golf in the city. The lease is in question now that the Trump administration has issued a formal notice of default. They claim the nonprofit is in violation of the deal and openly threatening to seize control of the properties.

SSE Arena to debut new ice hockey tournament
SSE Arena, Belfast will host the new World Cup tournament for fledgling US ice hockey series 3ICE. The inaugural 3ICE World Cup will be held in the Northern Irish Capital on July 4-5. The two-day, eight-team international tournament will feature teams from Great Britain, USA, Canada, Sweden, Finland, Switzerland, Germany and Austria.

Blue Jays reward president Mark Shapiro with 5-year contract
Mark Shapiro and Toronto agreed to a new five-year contract after the team’s first American League pennant since 1993. The president and CEO of the Blue Jays began his job in 2015. Before being with the Blue Jays, he spent 24 years with Cleveland.

The Big 12 is nearing an agreement with RedBird and Weatherford Capital that could give up to $500 million to the conference members. It would also create a strategic business partnerships. RedBird has delivered over $145 million of contracted revenue to the Big 12 and its member institutions to date.
