Trial date set for Cleveland Guardians teammates in sports betting scandal
Emmanuel Clase and Luis Ortiz will stand trial on May 4 on charges they allegedly rigged their pitches so sports bettors could profit. Judge Kiyo Matsumoto said the trial could last about two weeks. Federal prosecutors have not extended plea offers to to the defendants.

Jets grant $1M to ECAC to help create women's flag football league
New York Jets owner Woody Johnson and the Betty Wold Johnson Foundation granted $1 million to the Eastern College Athletic Conference. The investment is designed to help the creation of the largest collegiate women’s flag football league in the nation. The launch of the Jets ECAC Women’s Flag Football League will be in 2026.

MLS viewership soars during Audi 2025 MLS Cup Playoffs
Broadcasts for this year’s postseason are averaging 711,000 viewers per match. This is a 23% year-over-year increase across linear and streaming platforms. The regular season also saw an increase in viewership. MLS averaged 3.7 million gross live match viewers per week, which was a 29% increase from 2024.

Tiger Woods provides insight into future PGA Tour schedule changes with hopes of implementation by 2027
Tiger Woods is on the future competitions committee and has a lot of power when it comes to the 2027 PGA Tour and beyond. The PGA Tour schedule could consists of a tournament load of roughly 20 events. The start date would be after the Super Bowl. This would lead there to be more viewership of the events since NFL games will be over. Woods provided behind-the-scenes information on the idea.

New York casino developments receive approval
The New York Gaming Facility Location Board endorsed three proposals for casino developments in New York City. One would incorporate a 7,000-seat multi-purpose entertainment venue and another to be located near Citi Field, home of Major League Baseball’s New York Mets. The board has selected proposals from Bally’s, Hard Rock and Resorts World.

Cubs' Marquee Sports Network eliminates GM position among cuts
Marquee Sports Network eliminated Diane Penny’s GM position. She joined the network in April 2024. In place of Penny, Cubs chief commercial officer Colin Faulkner will oversee game coverage and production. Marquee also is outsourcing its local sales operations to PlayFly, which represents Marquee and other regional sports networks in efforts to obtain national advertising.

ESPN’s Paul Finebaum says he won’t run for Alabama Senate seat
ESPN’s Paul Finebaum will not run to replace Alabama Sen. Tommy Tuberville in the upper chamber. Finebaum said he would consider running for Senate in Alabama after Tuberville announced he would be leaving the seat to campaign for Alabama governor. However, he decided to stay at ESPN to report on college football.

Is Nick Saban’s Involvement in Lane Kiffin’s LSU Hire a Conflict?
Lane Kiffin left Ole Miss to take the head coaching position at LSU. Kiffin confirmed former Alabama coach and current ESPN analyst Nick Saban counseled him to take the job in Baton Rouge. Now, the question is if Saban’s involvement is a conflict of interest since he argued on ESPN’s College GameDay on Saturday that Ole Miss should allow Kiffin to keep coaching the team through the season even if he leaves for LSU.
