World Series Games 1–2 TV Ratings Are Up With U.S., Canada Combined
The U.S. viewership of the World Series so far is expectedly down, but the event is showing substantial growth from last year. There were 13.3. million viewers for Game 1, down 13% from last year. Game 2 had 11.6. million viewers, down 16%. For Canada, Game 1 had 7 million viewers. When the two countries viewers are combined, Game 1 was 34% higher than last year’s Game 1.

Electronic Arts Sales Fall 13% in September Quarter; Game Giant Suspends Earnings Calls and Guidance Ahead of Go-Private Deal
Electronic Arts saw its sales fall 13% year-over-year during the July-September quarter. EA has a pending $55 billion deal to be taken private by investors including the Saudi Arabia Public Investment Fund, Jared Kushner’s Affinity Partners and Silver Lake Group, which was announced Sept. 29 and is on track to be completed by next spring, subject to closing conditions.

Lions, Aidan Hutchinson agree to $180 million extension with most guaranteed money ever for a non-QB
The Detroit Lions and defensive end Aidan Hutchinson have agreed to a four-year, $180 million contract extension. The deal includes $141 million guaranteed, a record for any non-quarterback. At $45 million per year, Hutchinson becomes the second highest-paid non-quarterback on an average annual salary basis.

Lab96 Studios is a new in-house content studio designed to deliver athlete stories in fresh, episodic and cinematic ways. The brand is shifting away from traditional marketing and toward more evergreen, entertainment-driven content deigned to engage athletes and fans to the brand. There is a high school football series in collaboration with Overtime, a baseball series with Boardroom and more.

More than 25 million NFL fans watch Green Bay Packers-Pittsburgh Steelers game
The viewership of Pittsburgh quarterback Aaron Rogers playing the Green Bay Packers for the first time since being traded to the New York Jets just three seasons ago peaked at an audience of 28.2 million in the second quarter. Rogers spent 18 seasons on the Packers. This marked the fifth game out of eight on NBC this season that had had at least 25 million people watching.

New Aloha Stadium plans expect to include 46-year-old swap meet
A new Aloha Stadium is in discussion. This also brought up The Swap Meet. It began in 1979 as a mom-and-pop open-air market and emerged as Hawaii’s largest. The event was a way for the stadium to generate revenue. The stadium also held nine home games for the University of Hawaii. The Swap Meet draws around 1.1 million visitors annually. The state collects roughly $4 million annually from the vendor and parking fees. The new stadium plans to include The Swap Meet in its design.

NRL considers global round for start of 2027 season
Australia’s National Rugby League is considering organizing a global round at the start of the 2027 season. The league has played matches at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas for the past two seasons and will return at the start of the 2026 season. NRL is looking to play games in London, Dubai, Hong Kong, Miami and Paris.

The No. 2 business operations executive from the Arizona Diamondbacks is leaving the team after 20 years. Cullen Maxey is the president of business operations for the Royals. Brooks Sherman transitioned to real estate development with the club.

The Division I Board of Directors on Tuesday voted to delay the effective date of a rules change to allow student-athletes and school athletics department staff members to permissibly bet on professional sports under NCAA rules. The rule change now will not take effect until Nov. 22. This change also delays the effective date for Division II and Division III.
