As Sportico’s Kurt Badenhausen writes, “One thing already settled is what the top pick will earn—a four-year contract worth roughly $57 million.
“Rookie contracts for first-round picks are tied to the NBA salary cap, which is currently projected to be $141 million for the 2024-25 season. The cap is expected to increase 3.7% versus last season, with rookie deals up the same percentage—Wemby signed a four-year contract worth $55.2 million.”

Tatum’s Celebration Spotlights the Business of Iconic Sports Photos
As Sportico reports, the biggest revenue stream for Getty (NYSE: GETY) is through commercial sales, since it offers different price points than editorial offerings. Through its partnership with the NBA, which started in 2001, the stock photo company has the exclusive commercial rights. But the stronger revenue potential comes with more hurdles for the interested parties and organizations. Anyone clamoring to utilize the memorable Game 5 photo must have the intellectual property rights to Tatum individually or through the current group licensing agreement overseen by the NBA’s players union.

The NBA Draft’s New Two-Day Format May Have a Secret Weapon in Round 2
As FOS’ David Rumsey writes, “The league is tipping off a new experiment to increase interest in and hype around its annual rookie selection event. The two-round NBA draft is expanding to two days this year. The first round will take place Wednesday night at Barclays Center in Brooklyn, with TV coverage on ABC and ESPN, beginning at 8 p.m. ET. The second round will move across town to ESPN’s Seaport district studio, and out of prime time, airing on ESPN at 4 p.m. ET on Thursday afternoon.
This year’s draft class does not have a comparable consensus top pick—which is held by the Hawks—but does include a similar European connection.
