UCLA Taps Big Name Alums to Join Search Committee for Next Football Coach
UCLA on Thursday revealed the five-member search committee for its next football coach, featuring “heavy hitters from various corners of the professional sports world, including two who helped engineer a quick turnaround” with the Commanders, according to Ben Bolch of the L.A. TIMES. The committee members that will assist UCLA AD Martin Jarmond in the search are Commanders GM Adam Peters, ESPN’s Bob Myers, sports exec Casey Wasserman, free agent LB Eric Kendricks and UCLA Exec Senior Associate AD Erin Adkins. Each member either graduated from UCLA or works for the school’s athletic department. Peters and Myers were “part of the team that hired” Commanders coach Dan Quinn, who took the team to the NFC Championship Game in his first season. They will “hope to have similar success in selecting the successor” to coach DeShaun Foster, who was fired earlier this month.

Elevate Promised to Announce College Fund Deals. Where Are They?
Sportico’s Daniel Libit and Eben Novy-Williams write, “In early June, Elevate unveiled a new $500 million college sports investment fund, touting that it had already signed two university partners. The schools’ identities were not divulged, but Elevate’s official announcement—as well as subsequent comments to various media outlets—indicated those would be revealed ‘soon,’ perhaps within a few weeks. That has yet to occur, nearly 15 weeks later.

“When Sportico published a story reporting that UCLA and Penn State, two existing Elevate partners, were the institutions being referenced, both universities firmly denied any such agreements. This week, they said nothing has changed.”
