E.W. Scripps stock surges 40% after Sinclair takes stake, pushes for a merger
Sinclair disclosed a stake in E.W. Scripps on Monday. Sinclair acquired a roughly 8% position in Scripps. The company has been in discussions regarding a deal and believes if it were to reach an agreement that a transaction could be completed within nine to 12 months. Sinclair said there would be an expected $300 million in synergies if a merger were to take place.

Pistons star Cade Cunningham to get signature Nike shoe next season
Detroit Pistons guard Cade Cunningham is staying with Nike. He signed a six-year endorsement deal and will have a signature shoe that is expected to debut in the second half of the 2026-27 season. Cunningham talked with Kevin Durant about being with Nike. Cunningham is the sixth active player to have a signature shoe deal with Nike.

The ATP season came to a close when Jannik Sinner beat Carlos Alcaraz. No. 2 Sinner won $5.1 million for beating No.2 Alcaraz. Sinner was undefeated in the tournament. This led him to secure the largest price on the 2025 men’s tennis calendar. He set the second-largest single-season record with $19.1 million.

CarMax is the Official Auto Retailer of the NBA and WNBA. Its new campaign includes multi-year partnerships with basketball stars Paige Bueckers and Donovan Mitchell. The players will appear in ads and at events. The new “Wanna Drive?” spots from 72andSunny Los Angeles feature Bueckers and Mitchell bringing their own signature style and energy to the screen, alongside the new CarMax House Band introduced earlier this year.

NFL plans return to Spain after success of Bernabéu game
NFL commissioner Roger Goodell said the league will return to Spain in the future. Sunday’s game between the Miami Dolphins and Washington Commanders at Madrid’s Estadio Santiago Bernabéu attracted 78,610 fans. Goodell did not specify whether the NFL would return to the Bernabéu or consider other venues in Spain.

Women’s Pro Baseball League to play inaugural 2026 season at Robin Roberts Stadium in Illinois
The inaugural season of the Women’s Pro Baseball League will take place at Robin Roberts Stadium in Springfield, Illinois. The stadium seats 5,200 people. It is currently home to the Springfield Lucky Horseshoes of the Prospect League. The four-team WPBL is the first active professional women’s baseball league since the 1940s.

Professional Fighters League Appoints Lenny Daniels As Chief Operating Officer
The Professional Fighters League (PFL) named Lenny Daniels the new Chief Operating Officer. He will oversee all day-to-day operations across the PFL, including the League’s global business operations, brand and content strategy, and commercial expansion. Daniels will also negotiate on U.S. media rights. He was recently the President of Warner Bros. Discovery Sports U.S.

American Conference official Chuck Sullivan dies at 54
American Conference assistant commissioner and primary spokesperson Chuck Sullivan has died after a long illness at the age of 54. Sullivan passed on Saturday night due to melanoma. He joined the Big East as a director of communications in 2007, continued the role when it turned into the American in 2013 and was promoted to assistant commission for communications in 2015.

Arizona Athletics and Casino Del Sol announce $60 million-plus stadium naming rights partnership
Casino Del Sol is an enterprise of the Pascua Yaqui Tribe. The University of Arizona announced a 20-year naming rights agreement with the enterprise for Arizona Stadium valued at more than $60 million. This is the largest such agreement in Big 12 Conference history. The venue will be known as Casino Del Sol Stadium. The naming partnership includes new exterior and interior branding, field logos, and digital platforms, along with expanded integration into national television broadcasts.
