As he welcomes Gotham FC, Biden says ‘a woman can do anything a man can do,’ including be president
President Joe Biden said, “A woman can do anything a man can do…including being president of the United States,” as he welcomed the 2023 National Women’s Soccer League champions Gotham FC to the White House. This is the first time in the league’s 11-year history that the team has received a White House invitation. Gotham FC won the 2023 NWSL championship last November. It was the first trophy for the team.

NFL’s Highest-Paid Players 2024: Top 20 Make $1.1 Billion
The NFL is the world’s richest sports league, with the average team worth $5.93 billion and profits of $143 million. The 20 highest-paid players will earn an estimated $1.1 billion this year, on and off the field, up 29% from the top paid in 2023. Dak Prescott is the first NFL player to make $100 million in a calendar year, with $86.25 million from the Dallas Cowboys in 2024 and an estimated $14 million from endorsements, memorabilia and licensing.

Nike Stock Surges Following Appointment of New CEO
Elliott Hill will take over as the Nike president and CEO next month. Hill is focused on “always put(ting) the consumer at the center of everything and every decision.” This is where many believed former president and CEO John Donahoe struggled. Hill will be paid a compensation package worth up to $27 million, depending on his ability to hit certain performance targets and earn incentive awards.

Snapchat just signed a deal with WSC Sports to bring its AI content tools to members of its Snap Stars revenue-sharing program. TikTok is very effective for the Gen Z audience but has the potential of being banned due to national security concerns.

Aramark workers start strike across Philly stadiums
Aramark food and beverage employees in Philadelphia initiated a strike on Monday. Employees from all three stadiums in the city participated. They started to strike amid what the Unite Here Local 247 workers’ union said is “an ongoing fight for family-sustaining wage increases and stronger benefits.”

The former Winnipeg Jets coach Paul Maurice knew Christine Bumstead’s father during the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020. Christine joined her father and Maurice on a hunting trip in 2020. Bumstead was invited to be part of the development camp with the Florida Panthers this summer. Now, she is part of the NHL Coaches Association Female Coaches Program.

NCAA Shrinks In Importance As College Sports Turns Pro
The NCAA conceded major changes in a reformed student-athlete model. Colleges would be able to pay athletes for media rights, ticket sales sponsorships and NIL. It also envisions the NCAA, member schools and conferences paying athletes about $2.8 billion over a 10-year period as compensation for depriving athletes of NIL, video game and broadcast opportunities in recent years. Colleges will face a salary-cap-like ceiling of $21 million for payments to all athletes in a program.

Memphis, Tulane, USF, UTSA Commit to AAC Amid Pac-12, Conference Realignment Rumors
Memphis, Tulane, USF and UTSA are still committed to the AAC after some received offers to join the Pac-12. The option for Memphis, Tulane and USF football and basketball teams to join the Pac-12 were presented. Schools attempting to leave the conference would face a $25 million exit cost and the Pac-12 only offered to pay $2.5 million of the exit fee.
