New York Is First World Cup City to Charge for a Fan Fest. It Might Not Be the Last
The 2026 FIFA World Cup Fan Festivals are charging fans for tickets for the first time in tournament history. New York/New Jersey is selling tickets for $10, or $12.50 with fees, for entry into two of its three organized fan events. Nine host committees have not confirmed whether they will be charging for their events. Kansas City, Houston, Atlanta, Philadelphia, Vancouver and Toronto said they will not have a fee for their Fan Fests.

WNBA CBA deadline passes with no deal; talks underway over FA moratorium
The WNBA and Women’s National Basketball Players Association failed to agree on a new collective bargaining agreement or an extension on the previous one by last Friday’s deadline. Both sides are expected to continue negotiations to make a transformational deal. The league and players’ union proposed moratorium that would halt the initial stages of free agency. The teams are preparing to extend qualifying offers and core designations under the expired agreement.

Ticket prices soar for Indiana-Miami College Football Playoff national championship game
There are still tickets for sale for the Indiana-Miami College Football Playoff national championship game. However, the ticket prices are very high. The cheapest tickets available entering Friday on the secondary markets were around $2,800. After Indiana beat Oregon on Friday night, that price soars to around $3,800.

MLB Returns to NBC and Peacock in 2026: Full schedule announced
MLB returns to NBC and Peacock in 2026. There will be Sunday Night Baseball, the return of MLB Sunday Leadoff, a special all-day “Star-Spangled Sunday,” the Wild Card round of the MLB playoffs and much more. The Opening Day doubleheader is on March 26. Paul Skenes and the Pittsburgh Pirates will face Juan Soto and the New York Mets.

Test event shows 2026 Milan Olympic hockey arena still unfinished
Santagiulia Arena was open to the public for the first time for an Italian Cup game held on Friday. There were numerous problems reported with the rink. There are less than four week until the Olympic women’s hockey tournament will play there. International Ice Hockey Federation president Luc Tardif said that although parts of the rink and arena might not be complete in time, the playing surface, practice facilities and dressing rooms will be ready when the men’s hockey tournament starts on Feb. 11.

Falcons hire Matt Ryan as new president of football, bringing legend back to franchise
Matt Ryan was named the new president of football for the Atlanta Falcons. Ryan spent 14 of his 15 seasons in the NFL with the Falcons. This comes after head coach Raheem Morris and general manager Terry Fontenot were fired. In 2023, Ryan joined CBS Sports as a broadcaster. Tom Pelissero of NFL Network said that Ryan would leave CBS Sports if hired by the Falcons.

New England Patriots’ star Stefon Diggs has a criminal case. He faces strangulation and other charges in connection with a dispute with his former private chef. He is also entangled in two other legal battles surrounding claims of extortion and defamation. Diggs claims that Mia Jones repeatedly punched him in the chest and broke many of his belongings. He also claims that Jones and her friend, Brianna Mack, tried to extort him for millions of dollars.

Mannix Sources: NBA, NCAA Discuss Threat of Prop Bets, College Eligibility Issues
NBA commissioner Adam Silver and NCAA president Charlie Baker met to discuss overlapping issues within pro and college basketball. There has been an ongoing threat of legalized gambling, particularly prop bets. The men also discussed player eligibility. Last month, the NCAA allowed James Nnaji to play after drafted by the NBA in 2023. The NCAA opened the door for any drafted player to return— provided they have not signed an NBA contract.
